• PETA lawsuit may affect Camel Farm near Yuma

    The animal-rights group PETA filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the U.S. Department of Agriculture for renewing the Animal Welfare Act licenses it has issued for six facilities, including the Camel Farm, a petting zoo near Yuma. The suit, filed in the Washington, D.C. U.S. Federal District Court, alleges the agency renewed the licenses for 2018 after these small zoos, which PETA calls "roadside facilities," certified themselves as meeting the requirements of the law, despite having multiple violations recorded last year during USDA inspections.
