    When the disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 acquired the name COVID-19 last February, many birders couldn't help but notice the coincidental similarity between that abbreviation and name of one of the most familiar of all passerine families - Corvidae. Even more similar is “corvid”, the generic name we give members of this family, whether they be crows, ravens, rooks, jackdaws, jays, magpies, treepies, choughs, or nutcrackers.
